Jalori Pass

Jalori Pass (3120m) in Himachal: location, trek to Serolsar Lake, Raghupur Fort, and current status. Is it open today? Plan your Jibhi Valley visit.

Jalori Pass: The Gateway to Serolsar Lake & Raghupur Fort Trek in Jibhi Valley

Nestled high in the Himalayas of Himachal Pradesh, Jalori Pass (3120m) is the highest motorable pass in Kullu district and a breathtaking gateway to some of the region’s most pristine wilderness. Located just 14 km from Jibhi village, this scenic mountain pass connects Kullu’s Banjar Valley to Shimla’s Rohru Valley and serves as the starting point for the Jalori Pass trek to Serolsar Lake and the Raghupur Fort trek.

Where is Jalori Pass?

Jalori Pass location is in the northern reaches of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. It lies along the road branching off from Shoja, which connects to Jibhi via NH305. The pass sits at an elevation of 3120 meters, making it one of the highest accessible points in the region during the open months. From here, panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, dense deodar forests, and distant valleys unfold—especially stunning in March, when winter lingers and the landscape wears a quiet, frost-kissed beauty.

Is Jalori Pass open today?

As of Saturday, 28 March 2026, Jalori Pass is not yet open for regular vehicular traffic. The pass remains closed due to snow and typically reopens in May after the snow clears and the road is deemed safe by authorities. While Jibhi village (2250m) is accessible year-round—even in winter for snow tourism—the higher-altitude road to Jalori Pass (3120m) is shut from November to April due to heavy snowfall.

Is Jalori Pass open?

No, Jalori Pass is not open in March 2026. The pass is seasonal, accessible only from May to October. Attempting to reach it earlier is risky and not advised due to snow blocks and potential avalanche zones. Travelers looking to plan a Jibhi trek to Jalori Pass should target post-monsoon (October) or early summer (May–June) for safe, scenic access.

Plan a Jibhi Trek to Jalori Pass

For trekkers, Jalori Pass Jibhi offers two iconic trails: the Serolsar Lake Jalori Pass trek and the Jalori Pass Raghupur Fort trek. Both are 5 km one-way from the pass and rated easy to moderate.

The Serolsar Lake Jalori Pass trail winds through dense oak and deodar forests—rich with birdlife like the Himalayan Monal and Koklass Pheasant—and leads to a sacred alpine lake at 3100m, home to the Budhi Nagin deity. The lake is accessible only on foot, with no vehicle access beyond Jalori Pass.

The Raghupur Fort trek offers historical intrigue, leading to the ruins of a medieval fort with sweeping valley views. Both treks start at the top of Jalori Pass, where small tea stalls offer hot refreshments.

Jalori Pass in March: What to Expect

While you can't reach Jalori Pass in March, Jibhi Valley itself is magical this time of year. March–April brings mild weather and the delicate bloom of apple blossoms—perfect for quiet walks, trout fishing (with permit), and enjoying the local "Ailyak" pace. The Jibhi Waterfall, just 1 km from the village, is still flowing from winter melt and makes for an easy 15-minute walk.

Key Travel Tips for Jalori Pass & Jibhi Valley

  • Nearest airport: Bhuntar (65 km from Jibhi, 2 hours by road)

  • Electricity: Power cuts common in monsoon; most stays have inverters
